Stuart Pedley-Smith, a senior manager
in The Financial Training Company (FTC) is using NLP to
improve the companies understanding of how to deliver
technical information more effectively as continued
professional development (CPD) becomes compulsory for many
finance professionals for the first time this year.
(London) April 14, 2005 -- FTC is a leading
provider of professional qualifications and business
training in the UK and Asia. FTC became part of Kaplan,
Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Washington Post
Company in 2003. It has achieved a remarkable success rate
for preparing students, over 30,000 a year for exams such as
the AAT, ACA, ACCA and CIMA including tax qualification
programs, training for investment professionals such as
CFA®, CPD training and specialist corporate and government
training.
The company is continually updating courses taking into
account latest changes in syllabus, legislation, regulation,
technologies, and practice as well as incorporating new
approaches to satisfy continued professional development.
This makes for ‘world class training,’ combining
professional, technical, emotional and personal
competencies.
Stuart Pedley-Smith, a tutor and member of the senior
management team at FTC, is dedicated to implement best
practice. On observing how some tutors are more effective
than others he wished to widen his own skills. He approached
PPI Business NLP, a bespoke provider of training. PPI
specialise in modeling best performance, communications,
appreciation of key patterns, beliefs and behaviors – all
attributes that are able to empower and will give
individuals the edge over others.
On completing PPI’s NLP practitioner and business focused
master practitioner modules he felt inspired and ready to
encourage his audience to become more effective. “Our role
is to deliver courses that not only contain practical and
sometimes essential knowledge, but also to ensure that
students and delegates can remember the content of the
presentation and are motivated and inspired to implement
what they have heard. This separates top tutors from
others.” “NLP has given me greater flexibility so that I can
adapt my behavior to ensure my audience gets the results
they look for.
Techniques that Stuart found particularly useful were
modeling, state, language patterns and story telling.
Modeling enables identification of the main attributes of
top performance. Use of emotional and physical states will
influence an audience from the start of the session. State
together with language patterns and story telling can grab
an audience’s attention on both a conscious and unconscious
level. Thus making it easier for the audience to apply what
they have learnt.
Stuart chose PPI’s training because of its modular
structure. The weekday modular structure fitted in with
Stuart’s busy schedule – and he later found that they worked
particularly well with his learning style. He was eager to
get the most respected accreditation evidenced with Richard
Bandler personally signing his practitioner and master
practitioner certificates.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) was introduced by Richard
Bandler and John Grinder as a tool for personal development
30 years ago. It is continually assessing and developing
frameworks for understanding attitudes, it models successful
performers and provides techniques for improving thought
processes and communications skills. Business NLP draws on
these studies which can be used in different environments.
Clients of PPI Business NLP include Abbey, Accenture, ACCA,
Argos, AstraZeneca, Barclay’s, Birmingham University, BT,
BAe, Centrica, ODPM, the PM’s Strategy Office as well as the
main public services.
